BUILDING A WEBSITE

"CONTENT IS KING".   Work from this basic premise and your site will be visited more.   The internet is the worlds' biggest library where people are looking for one thing, INFORMATION (that is why you are reading this page now).   Try and provide your visitors (potential customers) with details on who you are, what you do, and the range of products and services you provide.   Don't include material for the sake of including material as there are  plenty of competing sites out there that don't.

Your first page such download quickly.   Not too much graphics (pictures or logos) but if you must use them keep them fairly small.   Since most people will find you through a search engine, if your first page takes a long time to download your potential customer will hit the "back" button on their browser and look at the next company that meets their search criteria.   Also make sure that the text loads first, before the graphics, so as your potential customer can be reading text while the logos download .

Your web site should be so easy to navigate that a child could find their way around every page of your site.   Always make it easy for your customer to get to the "bottom line".   Keep your preferred contact method on every page as your customer might not have the time or desire to navigate every page of your site.   Site statistics (which we provide with sites) prove that they do not.   Do not put links on your site that takes your customers away from your site, as it is hard enough to get them there in the first place.

Do not take advantage of "free" hosting that display annoying pop up or banner adverts for other companies.   These are fine for home page sites, but not if you are serious about presenting a professional image    Like most things in business, cheapest is not always best and you normally get what you pay for.   These are just a few of the "basics" but it is amazing how many web sites do not have them.   As with any part of business, a small percentage either way is often the difference between success and failure.   Why Fail?
